Iggy Azalea is a name widely used in pop-culture and one of the biggest names of 2014, and with good reason. Being the first Caucasian female rapper is quite a feat, but to also be the first person after The Beatles to rank number one and two simultaneously with their first two Hot 100 Hits is even more impressive.
Azalea released her album The New Classics on April 21, 2014 after her single “Fancy” reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart. And even with “Fancy” being so successful, Azalea was featured on Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” which reached number one on the Hot 100 Chart the week after. Azalea created a whole new feel to rap with her feminine touches paired with a R&B/Hip-Hop rhythm.
Although some songs contain the conventional aspects such as electronic drum programming and predictable bass drops, The New Classics was a success. After the rise to stardom, Azalea’s fifth single reached number one on the Hot 100 Chart; “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora is Azalea’s most recent hit, and many more are expected to come.
